...and in Metallica news.

They're now thinking about self-releasing their music.  Smart move...really, there is no reason not to.

Asked about signing a ‘360 deal’, Ulrich said: "We've never sold ourselves that way. No disrespect. We want to be as free a player as possible. We've been observing Radiohead and Trent Reznor and in 27 years or however long it takes for the next record, we'll be looking forward to everything in terms of possibilities with the Internet."

Wanna be featured on Icons of Punk?

Hey IOP fans!

So, as of today I will be doing a "What We're Listening To" thingy for the site. I really want to know what you guys are listening to, as well, and with that, I want to pick one of our readers choice to put up along with the IOP staff choices....whew...got that?

Please reply to kristin@iconsofpunk.com and let me know what artist you have been listening to a lot. You can choose a specific album, but it's not necessary...please do highlight one or two songs so that I may be able to put up a video.

Also, if you care to write up a little blurb about why you are such a fan, please feel free. And don't forget to include your name, age and where you are from.

Good luck!

: )

Mindless Self Indulgence streaming new album.

If, the newest album from Mindless Self Indulgence, is now streaming on their MySpace page.
E/N: I have been anxiously awaiting this album.  MSI, in my opinion, are such a tight, good band.  If you have not heard any of their stuff before, go and check 'em.

10 Most Annoying Singers, as told by Yahoo.

Yahoo has posted their list of the ten most annoying singers.

I was actually surprised by this list.  For as many annoying singers there are out there, this list seemed more like "these artists/bands annoy the crap out of me, so Imma make a list about it" type of thing, rather than a well thought out roster.  I mean, I can think of plenty of artists who are way more annoying than Lily Allen...plenty.

The Sleeping are looking to add new member to the band.

WANT TO JOIN THE SLEEPING???

Yeeeuuurp... we said it.

We (The Sleeping) are looking for a Rhodes/Piano/Guitar Player. We have been trying to keep it on the low for quite some time now, but we are just way too stoked to keep it in any longer. We want to ADD ELEMENTS to this group... we DO NOT and WILL NOT EVER limit ourselves!!
We are so excited for this and hope all of our friends/fans/family are as well.

Since we are gearing up for the next record (which we know all of you are about ready to hear) we want to go beyond the call and make music that is different and fresh. We want to step outside of the boundaries and put NEW and DIFFERENT into all of your hearts.

Since it is all about giving people fair shots, we thought it would be best to send a post out giving those of you who think you have what it takes a chance.

These are the requirements, please read, send your contact info and maybe a sample of something you have worked on to jointhesleeping@gmail.com

**Please, only respond to this if you have a fair amount of playing experience, we want to give everyone a chance but experience in playing is a must!!**

Requirements:

*EXPERIENCE IN PLAYING IS A MUST!!! (We don't want people coming to tryout with a $20 Casio Keyboard that you can find at any Radioshack.

)
* Must want to tour and dedicate yourself to life on the road NON-STOP with NO EXCEPTIONS!!
* Must be 20 years or older (We will make exceptions if you are an extremely badass player.

) :)
*Must have your own gear! We are looking for a Piano/Rhodes Player so you can obviously bring a keyboard to tryout.

(Unless you have a Rhodes and can transport it!!)
* Playing guitar is a plus...
*Moogs and Korgs are legit too if you have experience with them as well.

* Must obviously have a good personality and be able to deal with us maniacs, haha.

*MUST WANT TO TOUR NON-STOP with NO EXCEPTIONS!!

These are the basic requirements. Once we start holding tryouts and narrowing people down we will go into further details.

We will get back to everyone who emails us, even if it may take a while. This is a lengthy Process and we will get to everyone.

Remember... send your info (Age/Sex/Playing Experience/Touring Experience/Samples if you have any to jointhesleeping@gmail.com

WE HOPE TO HEAR FROM YOU VERY VERY SOON!!!!

TS

A Message From John Joseph

"The youth are the future and what kind of future will we have if it’s simply a bunch of mindless robots that have been bred to obey? I’ve never sold out, I always question authority and I’ve been involved in the ‘TRUTH MOVEMENT’ for years. Now it’s your turn."

I just want to know one thing… What the hell happened to the revolutionary attitude in music? You can’t find it anywhere. I know. I looked. Is it just a coincidence that bands that talk about it have been silenced from the mainstream? I think not. Where’s the next Bob Marley, Public Enemy, KRS-ONE, Bad Brains, Dead Kennedys or Cro-Mags? Well I have been talking about this for over 25 years in my music career, and now it’s all coming to light.  The TV media is controlled, the print is controlled, what you hear is controlled. Why? One word, people. Agenda. Certain people in power want to make sure that you stay numb and dumb. I mean, do you think they want you pondering the issues being brought up in the truth movements? Hell, no. They want you to pay attention to the mindless fluff on TMZ (FOX – TV; no coincidence there) and follow the downfall of Anna Nicole Smith, or Britney Spears, or find out who’s banging who and which stars are headed to rehab.  I give Gov. Jesse Ventura major props for standing up and voicing his opinion. He’s even gone on Alex Jones’ show and talked about how he knows we were lied to big-time about 9/11 and questioned what really happened that day. Having witnessed the buildings fall from a mile away, I, too, questioned what we were told and got my answers in the past seven years. All I can say is, Man, what a crock of s–t we were fed.  d get informed. Major stuff is going down right under your noses and you don’t even know it because the rabbit hole runs deep. I’ve been into punk since the summer of ’77. I was on the DC/NYC hardcore scene in the early ‘80s and never has there been a more urgent time for the punk message and throw-the-middle-finger-up-to-the-man attitude that it used to represent.  Our food is being poisoned (google: “The Future of Food”), our troops are dying (check out “Iraq for Sale”), for a False Flag War (“9/11 Mysteries,” “Terror Storm”), the economy is tanking (“America: Freedom to Fascism”), prescription and recreational drug use is soaring and we are just one fat-ass nation (“Super-Size Me”), forced to rely on what info dribbles down the legs of our pimps… the Bush administration. And make no mistake about it, they are our pimps. They ho us out, work our asses off, then bitch-slap us and take our money so they can line their pockets with our hard-earned tax dollars.  The truth is… all of this is happening because we let it. We’ve become complacent. We let them destroy the constitution and take away our rights. We let them dumb us down because we believed the info they’ve spoon-fed us. It all starts with the youth of this country and the world. If you guys let them distract you away from the real issues and dumb you down, then we are all done. The youth are the future and what kind of future will we have if it’s simply a bunch of mindless robots that have been bred to obey? I’ve never sold out, I always question authority and I’ve been involved in the ‘TRUTH MOVEMENT’ for years. Now it’s your turn.  It’s up to every one of us to get informed. It’s still ‘WE THE PEOPLE’ for the time being anyway. Research the real deal and make your voices heard. I, personally, have little faith in any of the choices this election but at least Obama’s talking the talk of change. Let’s make them answer the issues we want addressed. Otherwise we will be the ones incarcerated in all the camps FEMA has set up across America. Oh, you don’t know about that? You better put that TV remote and X-Box down and get online for that one. Peace & Tofu – J.J.

Thanks to Eddie for the tip.

If you ever wanted to see a Black Flag hair timeline...

I am still undecided if this is pretty cool or really weird.
You be the judge.

Agnostic Front launch new video, 'For My Family'.

“If this video seems like it has a lot of meaning, it was absolutely our intention,” frontman Roger Miret tells Headbangers Ball Blog.  “This is a visual heirloom we’re passing on to the New York music scene about the history and future of hardcore. It’s a very personal letter for my family, acknowledging the love, respect, and honor we hold for NYHC and our families today, tomorrow, and forever. We personally felt a need to give back to our fans and followers with this video because they are the true funders of this video, which is truly made by us for them. This is their anthem and our dedication to their support.”

Radiohead Cheated Chart Position?

Richard Bradley sort of uncovered how this may have happened,

"Today’s headline: “Mariah’s ‘Body’ Remains Atop Hot 100,” gleefully reminding us that she has moved past Elvis and now has the second-most #1 US hits ever (now only behind some old English band with a misspelled name). Reading on, more depressing (but unsurprising) news: “Madonna’s ‘4 Minutes’ holds at No. 3 after selling 217,000 digital downloads”; “Flo Rida’s ‘Low’ featuring T-Pain is No. 10 for a second week”; “The Hot 100’s top debut is Radiohead’s ‘Nude’ at No. 37″.

Wait a fucking minute..."

Seeing as how Radiohead has posted their single, Nude, available to remix and has stems for Bass, Guitar, Drum, Vocals, Strings, etc., available individually for download, Bradley does have a point.

"You could purchase each of the “stems,” or individual instument tracks, from iTunes — for the full single price of a buck apiece. Now, there couldn’t possibly be enough people remixing Nude to account for a Top 40 hit, right? But what if each stem counts as a download for the single? That would explain why “Nude” doesn’t show up in iTMS’ chart — it’s not the quantity of people buying the song, it’s that each person who does is buying it five times. Then tack on however many downloads of the full track itself, and you’ve got yourself a hit!"

Bradley's theory was addressed and later, confirmed, but I can't help but agree with a lot of the users over at absolutepunk.net...I just don't see Radiohead caring enough about chart lists to pull something like that off.  I think they wanted to offer something creative for their fans and got an added bonus, so to speak.

Amazing album title.

Last Stop: Crappy Town, the newest album from Reggie and the Full Effect, will be released June 17th via Vagrant Records.

"Just two weeks after we started, we had this concept record about how  the NYC transit system. Particularly the subways in Brooklyn — with the songs connecting together like trains in the station," said singer James Dewees to Alternative Press.

Dewees continued with, "I'm 32 years old and fortunate enough to have been a part of this scene pretty much from the old days of $5 10-band basement shows with Jimmy Eat World and Jejune. In summary —I like this record a lot because it pulls from the last 13 years of my life. I hope you enjoy it too."

H20 set release date for new album.

'Nothing to Prove', the latest album from the hardcore band H20, will be released on May 27th.   Check out their MySpace to listen to a couple of new songs and to keep an eye on tour dates.

Green Day confirms that they are Foxboro Hot Tubs.

Holli has been telling us that for months now.

"We think that the only similarity [between the Hot Tubs and Green Day] is that we are the same band. That is basically the only similarity," the Hot Tubs, er, Green Day, wrote in the e-mail. "We are Jason White, Jason Freese, Michael Pritchard, Frank Edwin Wright the Third and the Reverend Strychnine Twitch. ... We are four guys who love to play music and be spontaneous, [and] after a few late night jams and a few too many bottles of wine, we were inspired to record some rockin' eight-track recordings."

Chinese Democracy finally delivered to Geffen Records.

Awesome...free Dr. Pepper.

"After more than a decade of false promises and speculation, Axl Rose and his Guns N’ Roses bandmates have finally delivered their long-fabled album Chinese Democracy to Geffen Records. The record’s final price tag is estimated to be a cool $13 million.

Many music industry observers thought today’s announcement would never come. The band began working on Chinese Democracy 14 years ago as the follow-up to 1993’s The Spaghetti Incident, but money, copyright issues and turmoil between the band members plagued the project from the very beginning. GNR announced the album’s completion and release dates several times, most recently in March of 2007, but the album never materialize."

MySpace Music now official.

"News Corp. has announced the long-anticipated MySpace Music, a music portal that will let users stream and download music in addition to allowing them to buy concert tickets and merchandise. Three major music labels—Sony BMG, Universal, and Warner Music—have stakes in the venture, allowing them to yank some money out of MySpace's thriving music community, one  that has long been known as a gathering place for bands, artists, and their fans online."

"Downloads through MySpace Music will be DRM-free; video content and streaming music will be ad-supported. The company said that users will be able to choose from the full catalog as streaming options and will be able to share playlists with one another. MySpace also plans to offer a mobile storefront and allow users to buy ringtones, and new features will continue to be added to MySpace Music over time. MySpace CEO Chris DeWolfe said that the venture will provide "new revenue models for both MySpace and the music companies," although he declined to offer further financial details."

Fake News

This is ridiculous.  Within the first fifteen minutes of my being online today, I read that Pete Wentz is leaving the music industry, Natalie Portman was signed to I Surrender and will have an album out this summer, Peta is after the Cancer Bats to change their name and that Dillinger 4 is releasing a new album.

I was pissed about that last one.  For a hot second I actually fell for it, purely out of want.  When I remembered that today is April Fool's Day, a string of obscenities spewed from my mouth.

So, in honor of everyone fucking with me, I'm gonna just say that the Murphy's Law show on Sunday was amazing.  The entire show was like a time warp...so much fun.  I was impressed with a few of the opening bands, as well, which was a huge bonus.  Personally, I am always impressed with and absolutely love Revenge Of The Dragon; It was a privilege to see them twice in just over one week.  SOUTHPAW held their CD release that night, as well, so a lot of good dudes came out in support.  Murphy's Law...what can I say?  It was awesome, plain and simple.  I really can not stress how much fun the night was.

All in all, I wish I could see more shows like that and feel the energy that shows/rooms like that provide more often.  I'll try and steal pictures from somone as soon a I can find them.
